So what do Luna and I do every single day???
As most of you know, I’m a stay at home mom. The most boring/exciting job ever. If that makes sense? But you know what doesn’t make sense?! Being at home all day and still having a messy house with a to-do list that keeps growing. People who don’t have kids will say things like: “you’re so lucky to be home all day and do whatever you want.” Ummm, do you want to come over for a day to see what really goes down? Just try not to scream “f*ck” when your foot slams down on a wooden block. I swear this girl manages to place all the painful toys right where I step! Those letter magnets? Who thought of those anyway? They end up all over the floor. You’ll go flying to the living room in no time. But, there’s no denying that these tiny little humans are worth every not so pleasant moment.
Little Miss Luna has proven that she requires much more attention than me. My entire day is based around her. Which I don’t mind….okay who am I kidding?! There are days where I just want to put her in a box for a few hours and go run my errands, listen to MY music and not worry about what to entertain Luna with next! If you guys only saw the front seat of my car right now….I leave all her toys there because when she gets bored with one toy I hand her another, then when she throws that one to the side I hand her the next one, and so on, until all the toys end up in the back seat and hopefully we are at our destination. I used to avoid running errands for the simple fact that she HATES car rides and constantly putting her in and out of her car seat is so annoying!! Especially when all I need to do is quickly run in to grab my dry cleaning or drop off a package at UPS. Moms, be honest, have you ever left your child in the car to quickly run in somewhere? No judgement, I’m just curious!
So what do you we really do all day?
Well, for starters we go to the beach, A LOT. It’s our backyard. So you can imagine that’s where we spend most of our time.
There is tons of….
(And cardio for me.)
So besides the beach… this is typically how the days in the DeGeorge household go….
Mike takes her every morning to let me sleep an extra hour or two…(I know, I know he’s the best!)
She gets up between 7-8am. He makes himself a cup of coffee, and goes upstairs where her room is. It’s nice because they stay in the loft area and I don’t hear them.
Then they both come into the bedroom around 9-10am to grace me with their wonderful presence. I feel like Mike gets this sick satisfaction with waking me up in the most annoying way possible. Opens up all the blinds and throws Luna on the bed so she can crawl right on top of me. (Don’t get me wrong I love the little nugget) but I just want a little space when I’m JUST waking up…you know to like open my eyes, stretch, go use the bathroom and brush my dragon breath…
Mike leaves for work and then it’s just Luna and I.
We go into the kitchen, turn on her Baby’s First TV and start making breakfast. I know, it’s not great parenting on my end to turn on the T.V so early in the morning, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to keep your child occupied so you can get things done! Not to mention I noticed she eats A LOT more when she’s paying attention to something else besides the food I’m giving her. I can get away with feeding her half an egg before she catches on to what she’s been eating and starts spitting it out. That’s when I give her something I know she loves! Like dry cereal, cheese, pieces of fruit… ESPECIALLY BLUEBERRIES! And just recently she started demanding to eat on her own which is pretty hysterical to watch because whatever is on that fork/spoon gets in her hair, face and clothes before it actually makes it to her mouth. So while she tries to eat I RUSHHH to make my food…if she finishes before me then I can forget about my meal. I’ll just eat her leftovers that came from the floor.
“This is my eating face.”
“Yup just like this. Chew with your mouth closed like a lady.”
“Then don’t forget to make a cute face, and look over at the boys.” Saying “Oh yeah you wish you can have this. The food I mean! Not me of course.
Here we have the yogurt disasters:
A very helpful tip!!!
When it came to cooking it was hard because Luna would not leave me alone. Always tugging on my clothes and getting in my way…so I tricked her…. our kitchen is baby proof, but I’ll purposely unlock the cabinet that has the plastic tupperware and when she goes in there she gets excited cause she thinks she’s doing something “bad.” I’ll even make the proper sound effects to let her know I’m shocked…Like gasping when she starts pulling the lids and bowls out, or occasionally saying “Oh Luna! Nooooo what are you doing?!” I’m telling you it works! Kids want what they can’t have so you gotta fool them!
After breakfast I either put her in the stroller and go to the park or put her in the wagon and go straight to the beach. It’s nicer to go earlier in the day because it’s not as hot, but it’s definitely starting to get humid now…will be interesting to see how our schedule changes once the weather becomes unbearable.
We will spend about an hour to two outside, then go home and take a shower or bath together. Her favorite part! Plays with the loofahs and the caps from all the bottles lol
Tip: Get your child as tired and worn out as possible before nap time & bedtime.
She naps once and it’s usually in the afternoon, around 12-1pm. (Later in the post I’ll talk about how we put her to sleep, been doing it since birth.)
While she naps it’s work time for me! Laundry, dishes, prepare food for later in the day. Blog. Catch up on emails…but of course there are days where I just need to lay down and relax…I feel guilty sometimes knowing all the shit that needs to get done, but sometimes my body just shuts down and I NEED to hit the pause button.
When she wakes up from her nap I get a feel for her mood and see what she wants to do. Sometimes I can tell she just wants to be by my side…other times she wakes up super hyped and excited so I know it’s a great time to drag her along to whatever I need to do. (Go to the mall, run a few errands, etc.) Or my favorite, have mini photoshoots with her.
She’s such a girly girl already. Loves to watch me and copy me as I do my makeup.
It may look like we take many cute successful photos…
but most of them turn out like this…
Oh, I forgot to mention she doesn’t like to eat immediately after she wakes up. Like when Mike gets up in the mornings with her she doesn’t eat until I wake up an hour or so later…same goes for after her nap. She doesn’t want to eat right away.
So back to what we do after her nap….depending on the day we will either eat out or I’ll cook lunch at home. She will usually have some kind of soup or borscht. If I decide to go run errands then I bring her some puff snacks, and those squeezable food pouches. I NEVER leave the house without a ton of snacks for her because I don’t know how hungry she may get or how long we will be.
For the most part I avoid shopping at the mall because she doesn’t have the patience to just sit in the stroller…which is totally understandable. UNLESS I hold her, then we can be at the mall all day! Lol she loves walking around or being in my arms. Figures that’s any child though… it sucks because the closest mall has NO play area for children. However, there’s a little downtown place near by which has a carousel and a few kiddie things to do. I like to take her there. If the weather isn’t great outside I take her to this indoor playground near our house. It’s her favorite place! It has trampolines, every toy you can imagine, swings, slides! It’s like every kid’s dream! I love going there as well because I just let her cruise around and do her own thing while I do mine.
Mike gets home around 5 and honestly everyday is different from this point on…. we will either go out for dinner or prepare at home. We hang out with Luna, read her books, go out in our driveway and walk over to grab the mail, sometimes stop by the beach…just do things as a family before she goes to bed. It’s nice to get that quality time together.
Goin’ to the beach round 2!!! “Faster Papa Faster!”
Sometimes Uncle Eric comes over and we spend a few hours with him
Since Mike gets her every morning it’s only fair for me to be the one to get her all ready for bed and put her down. I make her a warm bottle of milk and go upstairs around 7pm. The whole process takes about an hour.
How we put her to sleep:
We always give her a bottle of warm milk, about 8oz. Her room is upstairs right next to the loft area. There’s a huge couch and she loves to lay there while drinking her milk and seeing someone next to her. It’s so funny how when she finishes the bottle she literally tosses it over to you with this little attitude like “Here, take it! I’m finished!” Then she rolls over on her belly and starts making noises, peeking over once in awhile to make sure someone is still here. She usually falls asleep within 15-25 minutes and we slowly pick her up to transfer her to the crib. There are days where she immediately wakes up the second she’s picked up, but we still put her in the crib and let her cry till she crashes again.
When it comes to brushing her teeth:
We brush her teeth every morning and night. Let me just say, she loves it! We use a finger toothbrush because I find it much easier. I can feel around her mouth knowing exactly what areas I’m getting. We say “ahhhhhhh” and she opens her mouth really wide. At night it’s a bit tricky. Ideally, I would love to brush her teeth AFTER she finishes the bottle of milk, but it’s now always that easy. Like I mentioned before she drinks her bottle, rolls over and falls asleep. Dragging her over to the bathroom to brush her teeth would just interrupt her dozing off phase. But to make sure she doesn’t go to bed with leftover milk on her teeth I grab a wet rag, so when she’s done with the bottle I quickly wipe the inside of her mouth with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Trying my best. If anyone else has any tips please share!
How To Kill Time:
Sometimes it feels like the day just draaaaaaaaags on. What seems like 6pm is barely 1. I wish babies were much more simple. Like go to the beach and have them tan right next to you. Or turn on their show and go about your business. But no, they need CONSTANT ATTENTION. For the most part I’d like to think I’m a fun mom. But trying to entertain your child gets so exhausting and you run out of ideas! So here’s a few things I do that actually give me some time to do stuff! Like talk to all you lovely ladies =)
♥ Coloring! I bought these thick beeswax crayons that are easier for her to hold and a huge coloring book so she doesn’t miss the paper. It’s actually been great because now, when we go to the restaurant and they hand her paper and crayons she knows exactly what to do with it.
♥ Chalk Outside. This keeps her busy forever! She loves having no limits to where she can draw. Except when it’s on me lol
♥Bath! I know some children are afraid of the water so this might not be for everyone, but it works for us. I place her in the bathtub, throw a whole bunch of toys in there and just sit next to her blogging or whatever while she plays. Usually we do this before bedtime because it gives the other person time to cook dinner.
♥ Find an indoor playground. They get to run around without you worrying about having to chase them around. They get to interact with other kids, (unfortunately you sometimes have to talk to the boring moms) haha totally kidding. But seriously, I can’t listen to you blab about how amazing your child is. Is it just me or is it hard to make friends with other moms?
♥ Hang out in the backyard! I just lay down on the lounge chair and let her be. It’s so cute to see how such simple things make her happy. Like collecting the leaves and bringing them over to me. Or grabbing all the rocks and laying them out…sometimes she will sit next to me me and we will watch Russian cartoons on my phone or FaceTime her grandparents. I’m telling you this kills an hour if not more! I haven’t really gone in the pool with her because the water has been cold, but it’s warming up now so we will definitely use it soon!
I forgot to mention one little thing: No matter what the day brings, Luna will always be the boss.
