As I wrap up my first year of parenthood I would like to mention the products that helped me get through. Im not saying these items are for survival purposes, but they sure as hell made our life a little bit easier.
When you’re a first time parent you feel like you need everything, because that giant baby checklist you ripped out of a magazine says so. But do you really need ALL THAT STUFF to raise a tiny little human?! It will take trial and error to discover the necessities. OR, you can continue reading and save yourself the stress and $$ 😉
1) Day Dreamer Lounger
If you have been following me since I’ve given birth to Luna then you’ve seen her in this 90% of the time. FYI. She never used it for sleeping! (Which some people have said it’s dangerous.) I would use it to place her next to me comfortably and safely. I really don’t know what moms use if not this lounger. It gave me the freedom to take her wherever I needed to go in the house. Bathroom while taking a shower, cooking in the kitchen, watching T.V, laundry room…everywhere! Ive used it since she was 2 months till about 6 months. It comes with straps if you want to be extra safe.
I thought I would need the “Boppy Nursing Support Pillow” for breastfeeding and stuff, but I found myself using the Day Dreamer Lounge WAYYYYYYY more! I used the boppy pillow to prop her up while she was on the ground playing with her little playground. (It helped her reach the toys better.)
2) Outdoor Bassinet/Baby Lounge
This might not be a MUST for everybody, but it was a BIG ONE for me. We live in paradise so its impossible to not want to be outside all the time. I knew we wouldn’t want to bring her big ass stroller, especially to the beach. I didn’t want to constantly drag her around in a carseat. So we bought a “to go” bassinet. Best thing ever. She was able to sleep and play in it. While being comfortable and safe. Also it made changing her diapers easy. Ours was from amazon. Called the “LulyBoo” and it converts from a backpack to a bassinet. We wouldn’t go to the park or beach without it. Even when going to someones house. If it was her nap time we would place her in it on top of a bed or couch and she would sleep safely and snug. https://www.amazon.com/Lulyboo-Baby-Lounge-Go-Portable/dp/B004V23YKQ/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1517206737&sr=1-1&keywords=lulyboo+bassinet
3) ZIP UP Pajama’s
Omg I can’t stress enough how much easier it is when your baby is in an outfit that ZIPS! I would wake up in the middle of the night to change Luna’s diaper and get so annoyed with all the stupid buttons on her pajamas. Please, just trust me on this one…just buy the pajamas with a zipper. Also, around 5 months, Luna started giving us a hard time while we changed her. She would be so squirmy. I can’t imagine trying to button up her outfit when she can’t lay still! https://www.amazon.com/Carters-2-Pack-Fleece-Pajamas-Cupcakes/dp/B06WW1X5SD/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1517206789&sr=1-2&keywords=carters+fleece+pajamas
4) Boon Grass Countertop Drying Rack
If you strictly only breastfeed than this won’t be an important one for you. I breastfed Luna, but I also pumped to give myself a break and have Mike feed her from the bottle. These damn bottles and pumping machines have like a million tiny pieces. It’s nice having this boon grass to store everything in one spot. I still use it Every. Single. Day.
5) Baby Monitor
I’m assuming you already know how important this is… the investment is worth it.
6) Blooming Bath
I can’t tell you how many times Luna had an explosion..(the ones that go all over her back 😳) Soap and water was much needed. Bathtubs are great for when you have the time to fill them up and hang out…but this flower bath was a quick way to clean her up comfortably!
7) Triple Paste
Mommas don’t waste your time looking for a good diaper cream. Just start with this one, and I promise you’ll never need to experiment with anything else!!! Luna not ONCE had a rash.
8) Baby Mesh Food Feeder
If I can just meet the person who invented this to give them the biggest THANK YOU. It’s been a lifesaver everyday, everywhere. In the car, at home, at the restaurant, the doctors, shopping….I mean…everywhere!!! I started using it when she was about 4 months. At first I would just put ice in it, and the cool sensation tremendously helped with teething! Then I started putting all types of fruits and veggies! She would suck and nibble on it forever! And we wouldn’t have to worry about chocking.
Ok, don’t go around asking stores for a toy named “Henry” lol. Thats just the name Luna and I picked out for him =) Again, as a parent you’re going buy a million toys. But you’ll soon realize it only takes ONE GOOD ONE to keep your child’s interest. This was our lucky one. I’m not saying its going to work for your baby, but hey its worth a try. Its called the NogginStik. A developmental light-up rattle. https://www.smartnoggintoys.com/store/nogginstik-developmental-light-up-rattle/nogginstik/
10) High Chair
When Luna grew out of the day dreamer (around 6 months) we bought a high chair. When I’m cooking or eating she is always right next to me in her high chair. May I recommend to get one thats easy to clean! Our is the “Oxo Tot High Chair.” $249 at Buy Buy Baby
11) White Noise Machine
Some parent’s feel like the sound of the ocean is soothing. Or birds chirping. But we always had it set on “white noise.” It basically resembles the sound babies hear when they are in the womb. So it’s comforting to them as soon as they are born. It also drowns out other noises made in the house. This way you don’t need to tip toe around.
This will require some thinking. With so many options on the market, how do you pick the right one for you and your baby? Well, this all depends on you. Go out and test them out! Do you want a jogger? A 3- Wheel? A 4 Wheel? I definitely suggest getting a combo. Stroller & Carseat. Don’t go for what “looks pretty.” Thats going to be the last of your worries when you’re on the go. Look for the stroller that folds and opens easily. A carseat that you can unhook and carry (they can be heavy.)
Well, there you have it! I hope this helps a future momma!!! Or if you are having baby #2, 3, 4 May God give you strength and patience haha, but give some of these a try!!!
